GALVESTON, Texas (February 4, 2016) – We are extremely excited to announce that Mitchell Historic Properties will be a sponsor of the Mardi Gras! Galveston Krewe of Barkus & Meoux Parade and the Firefighters Children’s Parade. We have made it a mission to give back to the local community and sponsor downtown community events. This year Mitchell Historic Properties has committed to 20 percent of the parade cost, we need your help to collect the 80 percent gap in funds for the parade.

This year both parades have been relocated to the Historic Strand District in downtown Galveston. The parades are set for Sunday, February 7, 2016. The 18th annual Krewe of Barkus & Meoux Parade will begin at 1 p.m., with the 12th annual Firefighter’s Children’s Parade following at 2 p.m. the same day.

The Krewe of Barkus & Meoux Parade will commence on 20th Street and Harborside Drive and continue south on 20th Street to the Strand, west to 25th Street, turning south to Ship’s Mechanic Row and heads east to 20th Street and will disband at Pier 20 just past Harborside Drive.

The Firefighters Children’s Parade begins at 25th and Santa Fe Place, goes south on 25th Street, east on Post Office, north on 19th Street, west on Strand and ends on 25th Street and Strand.

We are looking for partners that can contribute to this downtown community sponsored event. With more support from Downtown Merchants, we can increase the amount of visitors and awareness to Downtown Galveston. It is our hope that we continue to work together on future events/sponsorships with a shared goal of promoting the Downtown Historic Strand District.

Please make checks payable to Children’s Parade Krewe, every dollar will help pay for this parade. Checks can be dropped off at the Mitchell Historic Properties office, 2228 Mechanic, suite 204 Galveston, TX, 77550 or with Charles Olsen, 4627 Avenue O, Galveston, TX, 77551.
