GALVESTON ISLAND, Texas (July 9, 2009)—Galveston’s newest restaurant offers dockside dining overlooking the historic Galveston harbor from Pier 21. Olympia The Grill at Pier 21 opened in June with a Greek and European influenced menu, outdoor and private dining and live entertainment on weekends. The restaurant features European wines and fare plus a full bar. Owners Larry and Tikie Kriticos serve an expanded menu from their first restaurant, Olympia Grill on Seawall Boulevard, yet incorporate some favorites such as the lamb shanks. Their niece Chef Dimitra Kriticos and manager Wendy Hsu are also part of this new endeavor caring for all banquet needs.
Olympia at Pier 21 celebrates the Greek tradition by offering more Mez for diners to share. A mez is a hot or cold dish that is served either alone or with other mezethes as a separate dining experience such as an appetizer. The Kriticos family plans to offer family style dining so all guests at the table can share their meal choices. The menu includes some new specialty favorites such as scallops on the half shell, Steamers Asian Sesami Tuna and some favorite Greek desserts and new homemade delights.
The 5,000 square foot restaurant, including public and private dining rooms, offers indoor seating for approximately 150 people. The 2,800 square foot deck area offers outdoor seating for approximately 150 people. The restaurant will feature live entertainment on weekends on the northwest corner of the deck complemented by a gorgeous view of the sunset. A special Greek Night is scheduled on the third weekend of every month. Reservations are strongly suggested for Greek Night. Private parties can be accommodated in the restaurant’s private dining room for groups of 65 to 200 people.
The Kriticos were born and raised in Galveston and are first generation Greek Americans. Their father, aunt and uncle have all operated restaurants in Galveston including the Seawall Caf and Golden Greek. Olympia uses family recipes and prepares fresh food daily.
