GALVESTON, Texas (November 1, 2017) – Downtown Galveston’s food scene will soon be enhanced with the opening of Pelican Joe’s BBQ Beer & Crabs. Owner, Joe Miller, left the high-tech world to explore a food truck venture he started with wife, Belinda, in 2016. You may have seen his “Better at the Beach BBQ” food truck on the Seawall in front of the San Luis.  He is now expanding this concept and opening a BBQ restaurant on the Strand.

“We have been well received at our food truck this gave us the encouragement to open a bigger restaurant in the heart of Downtown Galveston,” said Miller. 

Located in the historic Old Galveston Square Building also known as “the Trumpet space,” the restaurant aims to embody a beach feel with the concept of bringing the beach inside.

Pelican Joe’s will feature BBQ favorites including brisket, pulled-pork, ribs, and smoked chicken wings and turkey legs. In addition to BBQ, the menu consists of Cajun style steamed seafood, locally caught in the gulf. Vegetarian options such as salads and Texas-sized baked potatoes loaded with any toppings of your choice will be available. Desserts include fair food favorites: funnel cakes, fried Oreos and fried Twinkies. Pelican Joe’s will carry local craft beers, bourbons and wines.

“We are excited to bring new life back into this amazing location. The trumpet is a well-known landmark on the Strand. We want to provide a unique, fun, and relaxed family atmosphere for locals and island visitors,” said Miller.
