GALVESTON ISLAND, Texas (Dec. 22, 2008) – Joseph “Joe” Rozier recently joined Mitchell Historic Properties (MHP) as project manager of architectural and development projects. Rozier is overseeing all construction for MHP including its historic buildings located in downtown Galveston and hotels which include Hotel Galvez, The Tremont House, and Harbor House. MHP owns approximately one-fourth of the buildings in The Stand National Historic Landmark District.
His professional architecture project experience on Galveston Island includes creating master plans for Bay Club and Stella Mare Village subdivisions, various Galveston restaurant projects including the renovation of Luigi’s, residential projects ranging from new beachfront construction to historical restoration, numerous retail and commercial lease spaces and adaptive reuse of historic buildings. One of Rozier’s first projects in Galveston was to help to convert the Wentletrap parking lot into Saengerfest Park, located at 23rd and Strand, in the early 1990’s.
Rozier sits on the City of Galveston’s Planning Commission and Landmark Commission and serves on the Ad Hoc Committee for Disaster Response for Historic Properties, Building Code Committee and the ‘07 City Charter Review Committee. He has a bachelor’s of architecture from Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture, University of Houston and studies abroad at the Centre d’Etude d’ Architecture et d’Urbanisme.
MHP oversees Galveston properties owned by Cynthia and George Mitchell and the Mitchell family, including its commercial and residential properties located downtown. During the past 30 years, the Mitchells have invested more than $125 million in rehabilitating historic properties in The Strand National Historic Landmark District. MHP launched a massive cleanup and restoration program in downtown Galveston immediately following the devastation of Hurricane Ike.
