Mitchell Historic Properties is a privately owned and operated company based in Galveston Island, Texas and part of Mitchell Family Corporation based in The Woodlands, Texas. Mitchell Historic Properties oversees Galveston properties owned by Cynthia and George Mitchell and the Mitchell family, including its commercial and residential properties located downtown. These properties include three hotels – Hotel Galvez & Spa, The Tremont House and Harbor House as well as approximately one-fourth of the buildings in The Strand National Historic Landmark District and Pier 21 along Galveston’s historic harbor.

The inaugural Galveston Island Food and Wine Festival has partnered with eight popular restaurants to host wine pairing dinners on Saturday, April 17. Following the “Tasting in the Park,” from 2:30 – 5:30 p.m., local restaurants are hosting wine pairing dinners. Participating restaurants include 901 Postoffice, Luigi’s Ristorante Italiano, M&M Restaurant, Olympia The Grill at Pier 21, Rudy & Paco, Saltwater Grill, Willie G’s, and Yaga’s Café. Pricing for the dinners range from $62 to $125. Advance reservations are required and can be made on the festival website.

Historic downtown Galveston is the site for the inaugural Galveston Island Food and Wine Festival on April 17. The festival includes a “Tasting in the Park” on Saturday, April 17 from 2:30 – 5:30 p.m. in Saengerfest Park, 23rd and Strand, followed by wine pairing dinners that evening. This year, the festival will feature South American wines as well as American wines complemented by live Latin music and entertainment. Mike Dean, president of Yaga’s Entertainment, Inc. and Yaga’s Café, is coordinating the festival.

Galveston County residents hope the first weekend of spring break was a sign of things to come this tourist season. And all the ingredients were there Saturday. The sun was shining, Saengerfest Park in Galveston was crowded with people listening to live music, The Tremont House Hotel piano player’s tip jar was almost full, it was hard for beachgoers to find a parking spot on the seawall, and the Kemah Boardwalk was packed.
