Mitchell Historic Properties is a privately owned and operated company based in Galveston Island, Texas and part of Mitchell Family Corporation based in The Woodlands, Texas. Mitchell Historic Properties oversees Galveston properties owned by Cynthia and George Mitchell and the Mitchell family, including its commercial and residential properties located downtown. These properties include three hotels – Hotel Galvez & Spa, The Tremont House and Harbor House as well as approximately one-fourth of the buildings in The Strand National Historic Landmark District and Pier 21 along Galveston’s historic harbor.

Hotel Galvez & Spa, A Wyndham Grand Hotel, has unveiled its beautifully appointed new second floor guest rooms. In preparation for the hotel’s 100th anniversary in 2011, hotel owners George Mitchell and the Mitchell family are updating all guest rooms with a new décor.

Galveston’s Tremont Café located in The Tremont House, A Wyndham Grand Hotel, has launched a new bistro style menu. As part of the new menu, the café has added new “After 5” entrée selections in addition to its breakfast and afternoon dining entrees.

As reported by the Galveston Police Department, there was an unfortunate incident on Saturday at The Tremont House which resulted in some slight damage to the hotel. Although the hotel still has two guest rooms out of service, the general operation of the hotel has not been disrupted.

Galveston continues to show signs of recovery from Hurricane Ike. A new boutique is set to open its doors in downtown Galveston on Feb. 1. Karen’s Kloset, at 2326 Strand, will carry gifts, designer clothing, lingerie, shoes and bathing suits.
