The hotel served as a temporary White House for President Franklin D. Roosevelt, a working facility for the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and as a headquarters for the Pageants of Pulchritude, the beauty pageants that preceded the Miss America Pageant. Hotel Galvez hosts an average of 120 weddings every year.
Hotel Galvez will celebrate its centennial in 2011 with monthly events beginning in December 2010.
