Jud Johnson Band, noon to 1:30 p.m.Jud Johnson is a Houston-area band that formed in late 2007. The JJB’s signature style of music incorporates various techniques of rock, jazz and funk. While their recorded work is outstanding, it is their live performances that provide fans with an unrivaled listing experience. Their broad variety of music styles and unique instrumentation make it clear why they were described as “the next Dave Matthews Band” by the CBS Early Show.
Lucky Tubb and the Modern Day Troubadours, 1:45 p.m. – 3:15 p.m. Lucky Tubb started his music career at age 14. Following in his great uncle’s footsteps (Ernest Tubb), Tubb’s style harkens back to the raw and original country sound of the 1950s Nashville artists. Utilizing the steel guitar, mandolin and fiddle, the Modern Day Troubadours pair a freshness and urgency with Tubb’s old-school vocals. Moving up the ranks of the Texas music scence, Tubb’s music has a timeless, familiar sound while still coming off fresh and new.
Ezra Charles Band, 3:45 p.m. – 5:15 p.m. Ezra Charles Band is a unique blend of rockabilly, swing, blues and boogie. They have the ability to shift from infectious dance beats to intimate cabaret-style songwriting. Their band features an all female three-piece horn section and musical selections that have entertained crowds for more than three decades. The Ezra Charles Band has competed and placed in both regional and international jazz competitions. Their music consists mainly of songs written by Ezra Charles that chronicle his life and the Texas Gulf Coast atmosphere where he grew up.
Wayne “The Train” Hancock, 5:45 p.m. – 7:15 p.m. Wayne “The Train” Hancock has been the undisputed king of Juke Joint Swing – a mix of honkey-ton, western swing, blues, Texas rockabilly and big band – since his debut in 1995. His music is steeped in tradition but never “retro.” Hancock makes music with an unmistakable voice that all but forces you to dance. Allmusic.com describes him as a “rare breed of traditionalist, one who imbues his retro obsessions with such high energy and passions that his songs never feel like the museum pieces he’s trying desperately to preserve.” Based out of Austin, TX, Hancock has toured all over the country sharing his particular brew of country flavor.
Radiostar, 7:30 p.m. – 9 p.m. Radiostar takes audiences on a high-energy trip through the 1980s, playing the biggest hits from some of the biggest names of the decade from artists such as A-HA, and Modern English to pop icons Rick Springfield and The Police.
