Ghost stories followed by dinner in a haunted hotel is a sure way to get in the Halloween spirit – no pun intended. The “haunted” Hotel Galvez & Spa, A Wyndham Grand® Hotel and National Trust Historic Hotel of America, will begin taking reservations for its annual October ghost tour and dinner on Tuesday, Sept. 4. Guests must contact the restaurant at (409) 765-7721 to make reservations.

The public can enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the new Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier from a newly installed Galveston.com video webcam located at the historic Hotel Galvez & Spa, 2024 Seawall Blvd., which is walking distance from the pier. This high-definition webcam offers a live view of the 100-foot tall Galaxy Ferris Wheel, Iron Shark Roller Coaster and other popular rides. Viewers will see the ferris wheel turn and see the riders spin and turn on the rides. The webcam is the newest installation by Galveston.com & Company, Inc. which offers a total of 18 webcams located throughout the island.

As guests enter the historic Hotel Galvez & Spa they are often greeted by a charming gentleman with a welcoming smile. This dapper gentleman is Guest Ambassador Bobby Hilton. He kindly directs patrons to the front desk, answers questions and gives tours. Hilton, 79, has worked at the Hotel Galvez for 17 years, originally as a lead waiter and head bartender and, in 2011, was promoted to a new guest ambassador position.

Galveston hotels - Hotel Galvez & Spa, The Tremont House and Harbor House Hotel & Marina are providing complimentary bottled water today to guests after the City of Galveston issued a water boiling notice on Tuesday. The hotel has shipped in fresh ice for its restaurants and guest requests. Water for bathing, showering, and swimming is safe and not affected by this notice.

In celebration of the 101st anniversary of the grand opening of Hotel Galvez and Spa on Sunday, June 10, brunch guests will enjoy a special anniversary cake and receive a complimentary commemorative poster.

More than a dozen couples will celebrate Valentine’s Day early by participating in a special Wedding Vow Renewal officiated by Justice of the Peace Jim Schweitzer at Hotel Galvez & Spa on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 11 a.m. Following the ceremony, couples are invited to enjoy a small reception hosted by the hotel. Of the dozen couples currently registered, two will celebrate their 30th and one will celebrate their 20th anniversary. Another couple from Mandeville, LA, Sean and Allison O’Toole, are inviting family to witness the renewing of their vows which coincidentally falls just 11 days from their 11th anniversary.

They will all be attending the City of Galveston’s Holiday Lighting Celebration at Hotel Galvez & Spa, A Wyndham Grand® Hotel on Friday, Nov. 25 from 6 to 8 p.m., a free holiday event open to the public that marks the start of the holiday season in Galveston. As part of the evening, Hotel Galvez will be accepting monetary donations for the Salvation Army to help those in need.
