Puppet and Marionette Shows to Add to Family Fun during Hotel Galvez Centennial Celebration06/03/2011Hotel Galvez & Spa
The Hotel Galvez Centennial Celebration on Saturday, June 11 will offer marionette and puppet shows performed on the hour beginning at 11 a.m. through 6 p.m. at the hotel’s new outdoor space called Centennial Green. Storytelling with puppets by Dru Woods is scheduled between shows.
Among the marionettes and puppeteers entertaining audiences are:
Don Harms and Harms Marionettes, 11 a.m. to noon, 5 – 6 p.m.
Harms became enchanted with marionettes at age 9. The Peoria, IL native described his early years in the Midwest as being conducive to the development of his craft. His early passion for marionette theater came to the forefront in 1970 when he became acquainted with the various methods of puppet construction around the world.
Dru Woods, 1 – 2 p.m. Woods, a professional storyteller who represents the Texas Commission on the Arts, presents stories through puppetry. He fractured fairy tales, folk tales and classic stories are enhanced through the incorporation of puppets and music. Woods, a retired teacher, is associated with East Texas Storytellers and Tejas Storytelling Association.
