Joseph “Joe” Rozier joined Mitchell Historic Properties in October 2008 as project manager of architectural and development projects. Joe oversees all construction for Mitchell Historic Properties including its historic buildings located in downtown Galveston and Hotel Galvez & Spa, The Tremont House, and Harbor House. Mitchell Historic Properties owns approximately one-fourth of the buildings in The Stand National Historic Landmark District.
His professional architecture experience on Galveston Island includes opening and managing an architectural office in 1999, programming and master planning, project documentation from conceptual design to construction administration, graphic design, and web site director. Projects included Bay Club and Stella Mare Village subdivisions, various Galveston restaurant projects including the renovation of Luigi’s & most recently the Olympia Grill at Pier 21, residential projects ranging from new beachfront construction to historical restoration, numerous retail and commercial lease spaces and adaptive reuse of historic buildings. One of Joe’s first projects in Galveston was to help to convert the Wentletrap parking lot into Saengerfest Park, located at 23rd and Strand, in the early 1990’s.
Joe sits on the City of Galveston’s Planning Commission and Landmark Commission, as well as UTMB’s School of Nursing Advisory Council and served on the Ad Hoc Committee for Disaster Response for Historic Properties, Building Code Committee, Seawall Development Zone Committee, and was on the 2007 City Charter Review Committee. He has a Bachelor’s of Architecture from Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture, University of Houston with studies abroad at the Centre d’Etude d’ Architecture et d’Urbanisme in Saintes, France.
He lives in Galveston with his wife, Sheryl Rozier, a structural engineering manager.They are in the ongoing process of renovating a 1894 historic home in the middle of the East End Historic District and both are working toward leadership in energy & environmental design for the City of Galveston.
