Mitchell Historic Properties owns and operates more than 20 historic buildings in The Strand National Historic Landmark District. New tenants include Sweets on The Strand, On Your Head, Nestlé Toll House Café, and Thomas Kinkade Gallery on The Strand. Additionally Olympia The Grill at Pier 21 opened June 1 and Luigi’s Ristorante Italiano reopened on June 11.
Returning tenants who have reopened include Fisherman’s Wharf, Pier 21 Theater, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Starbucks and Willie G’s Restaurant as well as locally owned Gracie’s, Tina’s, and The Admiralty Marine Model Gallery, Primitive African Art Gallery, and Santa Fe Trail should be reopening soon. Additional new tenants will be announced soon. MHP provides space for retail and office as well as residential.
Olympia The Grill at Pier 21 Opens
Galveston’s newest restaurant offers dockside dining overlooking the historic Galveston harbor from Pier 21. Olympia The Grill at Pier 21 opened in June with a Greek and European influenced menu, outdoor and private dining and live entertainment on weekends. The restaurant features European wines and fare plus a full bar. Owners Larry and Tikie Kriticos serve an expanded menu from their first restaurant, Olympia Grill on Seawall Boulevard, yet incorporate some favorites such as the lamb shanks. Their niece Chef Dimitra Kriticos and manager Wendy Hsu are also part of this new endeavor caring for all banquet needs. Note: Chef available for cooking demonstrations.
Luigi’s Ristorante Italiano Reopens
Luigi’s Ristorante Italiano reopened June 11 following a full restoration of the restaurant and bar area. Restaurateur Luigi Ferre returns to his Galveston location in the historic 1895 Hutchings-Sealy Building, 2328 Strand, where he has operated his Tuscan-style Italian restaurant since 1997. The restaurant sustained flooding on its first floor following Hurricane Ike’s impact on Sept. 13, 2008.
Tremont Café, opens in August, follows trend of Wi-Fi cafes
Tremont Café, opened on Aug. 10 and is following the current trend of offering a Wi-Fi café to appeal to travelers’ mobile computing needs. The café will feature features a 40-inch LCD television at the counter bar, 24-inch all-in-one PC/TV hybrids in its Internet booths, as well as complimentary Wi-Fi. The Tremont House also will offer free wireless Internet service in its lobby and guest rooms. The café will feature Starbucks coffee, pastries, a pizza oven, gourmet sandwiches, salads, soups and desserts.
