Mitchell Historic Properties
Mitchell Historic Properties oversees Galveston properties owned by Cynthia and George Mitchell and the Mitchell family. The Mitchells purchased the first of more than 20 historic buildings in what was once a dilapidated downtown in 1976. Today, thanks to their efforts and those of the Galveston Historical Foundation, Galveston’s downtown is recognized as a National Historic Landmark District by the National Park Service. Mitchell Historic Properties now operates and preserves more than one-fourth of the buildings in The Strand National Historic Landmark District and Pier 21.
