Lori Sheridan Mitchell

Design Director
Mitchell Historic Properties

Lori Sheridan Mitchell serves as design director for Mitchell Historic Properties (MHP). She joined the company in 2006 to oversee the interior design for all Mitchell Historic Properties’ historic buildings and hotels – Hotel Galvez & Spa, The Tremont House and Harbor House. Her first project involved working with her Aunt, Sheridan Mitchell Lorenz, to design and build The Spa at the Hotel Galvez, a 9,763 square foot facility located in the lower level of Hotel Galvez.

In conjunction with the creation of the spa, Lori renovated the sixth floor sleeping rooms at Hotel Galvez to create spa-inspired rooms. These rooms offer a soothing ambience with a neutral color palette. Exquisite finishes include Janus et Cie furnishings, Anichini Italian bedding, and newly appointed bathrooms with Ann Sacks tile and a luxurious rain shower. These rooms also feature creative photography by her sister Kayla Mitchell that is printed on Dibond aluminum. As part of this renovation, all the windows on the sixth floor were replaced with double paned divided light windows, which can be opened from the top.

She has also updated the pool at Hotel Galvez. The pool now features antique stone pool surround, Bisazza mosaic glass tiled pool, fountain, spa, and swim up bar. The pool area also features hand-woven furniture from Janus et Cie and Tuuci cabanas from Spain, equipped with refrigerators, chaise lounge chairs, and ceiling fans.

Lori assisted Grant and Tizziana Mitchell in the newly renovated Thompson Lofts located in the 1877 Thompson Building. These lofts are described as contemporary, yet classic. The lofts feature exposed brick walls, soaring ceilings with original wood beams, crisp white gallery style walls, high end finishes and appliances, Ann Sacks tile, Caesarstone counters, and sustainably harvested Lyptus wood cabinets.

Following the damage sustained by Hurricane Ike, she has made all design decisions for the rehabilitation of The Tremont House and other damaged MHP buildings. Under her direction, The Tremont House continues to have the same elegance and feel of a European-style boutique hotel. The new hotel lobby features beautiful Calacatta and Nero Marquina marble throughout, and an expanded reception desk. The lobby also includes the new Tremont Café opening July 2009, that will feature Starbucks coffee, pizza oven, gourmet sandwiches, wine bar, internet booths, and free wi-fi throughout. She also took this opportunity to update the guest corridors and the Belmont Suites. Additionally, she has made updates to the Davidson Ballroom and first floor annex in the 1890 Davidson Building.

Prior to Hurricane Ike, she had completely redesigned and completed renovation of Luigi’s Ristorante Italiano in the 1895 Hutchings-Sealy Building. The restaurant sustained flooding from Ike and was renovated once again, and reopened in June 2009. The inviting space now floods with light through the plantation shutters and features classic Tuscan themed décor.

Lori also designed the interiors of one of MHP’s newest tenants – Olympia, The Grill at Pier 21. This restaurant features an open kitchen concept with expansive views of the harbor. The industrial, yet warm space includes Oceanside glass, Knoll fabrics, Ann Sacks tile, Caesarstone, and reclaimed wood floors, all in a rich earth-tone palette.

Prior to joining MHP, Lori graduated from The University of Arizona in 1999, she was a realtor in Houston for six years, and developed her love of interiors through renovation projects, including a historic home and Great Storm Survivor she completed with her Aunt Sheridan in Galveston. She resides in Houston and is the granddaughter of Cynthia and George Mitchell.
