Ghost stories followed by dinner in a haunted hotel is a sure way to get in the Halloween spirit – no pun intended. The “haunted” Hotel Galvez & Spa, A Wyndham Grand® Hotel and National Trust Historic Hotel of America, will begin taking reservations for its annual October ghost tour and dinner on Tuesday, Sept. 4. This holiday season, in addition to great shopping, visitors to historic downtown Galveston can enjoy a new, free holiday event called “Lasers, Lights and Magic in the Park.” Lasers, Lights and Magic in the Park continues through New Year’s Eve on Monday, Dec. 31.

Dust off your children’s pirate costumes from Halloween and come out for An Afternoon of Pirates on Saturday, July 21 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Saengerfest Park, 2302 Strand. YARRR sure to enjoy The Bilge Pumps, a pirate music group from Dallas known for their sea songs, sea shanties and Celtic music combined with a dose of comedy. Pirates from Pirates! Legends of the Gulf Coast will also entertain the crowd with periodic sword fights during the afternoon.

Guests at the “haunted” Hotel Galvez & Spa, A Wyndham Grand® Hotel and National Trust Historic Hotel of America, can hear stories of the “Ghost Bride” and other reported strange occurrences during the hotel’s annual ghost tour and dinner in October.

In celebration of the 101st anniversary of the grand opening of Hotel Galvez and Spa on Sunday, June 10, brunch guests will enjoy a special anniversary cake and receive a complimentary commemorative poster.

Galveston FeatherFest, the island’s annual birding and nature photography festival, will celebrate its 10th anniversary April 12 – 15. Festival founders will be recognized at an anniversary event. The Mitchell family and staff of Mitchell Historic Properties created this annual birding festival ten years ago and funded it for the first two years. FeatherFest now offers more than 100 unique outdoor adventures amid 200 species of birds for nature enthusiasts of all skill levels. Events scheduled in downtown Galveston include photography workshops at The Tremont House and birding workshops and field trips based out of Old Galveston Square (one block from The Tremont House).
