The Tremont House Offers Meaningful Meetings in Texas' Backyard (Revised 3/2/2011)
GALVESTON ISLAND, Texas – Galveston Island is just 45 minutes south of Houston and surrounded by the Gulf of Mexico. The Tremont House, a Wyndham Grand Hotel and National Trust Historic Hotel of America, is one of only two historic hotels on the Island is situated in The Historic Downtown Strand District. The Tremont House features Wyndham ClearAir™ allergy-friendly air purification meeting space where 98-100 percent of all viruses and bacteria are eliminated. All room surfaces are treated to remove and hinder contaminants. As part of this process, a tea tree oil cartridge is installed that acts as a natural disinfectant. This purification system is in place in all 14,700 square feet of space in nine meeting rooms. The hotel has also added the air purification system to 10 percent of its sleeping rooms. These sleeping rooms are an optional upgrade. The PURE system is the most comprehensive allergy-friendly system in the hospitality industry.
Meeting planners can choose from a wide range of space from the option of a small board room to a large ballroom. The newly updated Tremont Ballroom in the Davidson Building (7,946 sq. ft.) hosts the grandest of gatherings but can also be divided into North and South Rooms for smaller events. The Davidson Annex on the first floor of the Davidson Building can host up to 100 people. One of the more popular rooms in the hotel is the Sam Houston Room (2,842 sq. ft.) where sunlight filters through floor to ceiling windows, creating a bright and alluring meeting space. The newly relocated Samuel May Williams, which also offers floor to ceiling windows and plantation shutters, can accommodate up to 25 people in a classroom style setup or up to 20 people in a conference style setup. The room holds up to 50 people in rounds of 10 for a banquet or up to 50 people for a standing reception.
The Ann Milligan Gray Room (690 sq. ft.) and the Stephen F. Austin Room (667 sq. ft.) can accommodate receptions of up to 70 people or banquets of up to 50. Both rooms include floor to ceiling windows. The Tremont House also offers a smaller board room called the Colonel Moody Room for meeting of up to 12 people. During the hotel’s 2009 restoration, the owners added a new Cynthia Woods Mitchell Room (700 sq. ft.) which also features floor to ceiling windows and plantation shutters that face Mitchell Street (24th Street). This meeting room is furnished with a conference table that seats up to 20 people and a television monitor for presentations.
After a day of meetings or training, attendees can unwind at the historic Toujouse Bar on the first floor or The Rooftop Bar overlooking Galveston’s historic downtown. Attendees can catch up on Email via the complimentary Wi-Fi in the lobby or Tremont Café.
The hotel offers a complimentary shuttle to The Spa at the Hotel Galvez, a multi-million dollar, 9,736 square-foot spa with accompanying salon and fitness center, which opened on March 15, 2008. The spa features eight treatment rooms, including massage rooms, hydrotherapy room, two Vichy showers, Swiss shower and couple’s massage room for luxurious pampering. The spa also offers the tranquility of the Relaxation Room and Meditation Garden which can be used for outdoor functions.
