Rosenberg Library will present The Great Storm: Original Photographs from the Devastating Hurricane of September 8, 1900 at The Tremont House, 2300 Ship’s Mechanic Row, on Saturday, Aug. 28 from 6 – 9 pm in conjunction with ArtWalk. The Great Storm presents 102 images during a 15-minute PowerPoint from the Rosenberg Library’s extensive photographic archives of the hurricane.

Mitchell Historic Properties recently announced the appointment of Marty Miles as hotel manager for The Tremont House, a Wyndham Grand® Hotel, and Harbor House Hotel & Marina. Miles has served as the complex food & beverage director since November 2009 and will continue to serve in this role overseeing the food and beverage operations of Hotel Galvez & Spa, The Tremont House and Harbor House Hotel & Marina.

Galveston’s only downtown hotel - The Tremont House, a Wyndham® Grand Hotel, will kick off the summer on its Rooftop Bar with a new atmosphere and weekday happy hour from 4:30 to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday. In addition to its daily happy hour, guests can enjoy live acoustic music and a coastal small bite menu every Thursday from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. as part of a weekly Party on The Rooftop. The bar is also open from 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday when not in use for private functions.

The Tremont House topped off the festivities with an East-West fête, drawing on the confluence of the Asian New Year and Mardi Gras for an evening that paired masks and beads with lion dancers and costumed performers from Lee’s Golden Dance Troupe. Hotel owner George Mitchell, the man credited with preserving Galveston’s past and reviving Mardi Gras 26 years earlier, played host, joined by family members including son Grant Mitchell and wife Tiziana, daughter Sheridan Lorenz and husband Perry, and sister Maria Ballentine.
