The Tremont House, A Wyndham Grand® Hotel, invites revelers to a two-stepping, line dancing, Mardi Gras “Waltz Across Texas” on Feb. 9, 2013 for the 29th Annual Mardi Gras Ball and Parade Viewing Party in Galveston. Entertainment for the evening includes Texas’ premier western swing band, Asleep at the Wheel, American country with a rockabilly attitude by Jesse Dayton and incomparable New Orleans jazz performed by the internationally acclaimed Dr. Michael White Jazz Quartet. Guests can also compete in various categories for best costume.

Executive Chef Michael Jacobson joined the staff at Wyndham Hotels of Galveston in May 2012 working as executive sous chef initially at The Tremont House and at Hotel Galvez. He was named executive chef of The Tremont House in December 2012. Jacobson has nearly 30 years of professional experience in culinary arts and food service. His interest in culinary arts began in Littleton, CO in the high school culinary program.

The Cowboy Spirit, a collection of moving tintypes by internationally celebrated photographer and Texas native Robb Kendrick, will be on display at The Tremont House from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. during the January 19, 2013 Galveston ArtWalk.

This holiday season, Galveston will become the “Winter Wonder Island of Texas,” offering more than 1,000 holiday events from Nov. 10 through Dec. 31. In celebration, the historic Hotel Galvez and The Tremont House, both Wyndham Grand® Hotels, are offering a special Holiday Magic Package.

In 1985, George Mitchell and his wife Cynthia threw one of the biggest Mardi Gras parties that Galveston had witnessed for decades. The Mitchells wanted to recreate the “Golden Age of Mardi Gras” with krewes, pageantry and parades that Mitchell remembered as a boy. The Mitchells backed a Mardi Gras revival to coincide with the opening of their hotel – The Tremont House. The 1985 festivities drew an estimated crowd of 75,000 revelers and also marked the resurrection of the 1871 Mardi Gras society krewe, the Knights of Momus.

The Tremont House, A Wyndham Grand® Hotel, has announced that its 28th Annual Mardi Gras Ball and Parade Viewing Party on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 6 p.m. will salute “The Golden Era of Motown.” During the evening, guests can enjoy a special appearance by The Legacy of The Temptations presented by Legends in Concert.

The Tremont House has unveiled a new sophisticated, modern lounge atmosphere for The Rooftop Bar, located four stories above street level on the hotel’s roof and offering a spectacular view of Galveston’s historic downtown and harbor. The bar’s traditional wrought iron seating has been replaced with cozy sectional seating areas and bar high tables and chairs. In the evenings, the rooftop takes on a soft glow with new illuminated pots and eight-foot, lighted Manzanita tree.
